วันที่ 13 มิถุนายน เกิดพายุสุริยะขนาดใหญ่มีทิศทางมายังโลก ซึ่งคาดว่าจะส่งผลกระทบต่อโลกในระหว่างวันที่ 15-17 มิถุนายนในหลายรูปแบบ จากโมเดลพบว่าพลังงานจะเดินทางมาถึงโลกในวันที่ 16 มิถุนายน เวลาประมาณ 18 UTC+/- 7 ชั่วโมง นอกจากนั้นยังพบการขยายตัวของปริมาณจุดดับเป็นลางบอกเหตุถึงแผ่นดินไหวขนาด เกิน 6 ริตเตอร์ ภายใน 1-3 วัน ผู้ที่ทำงานด้านภัยพิบัติโปรดติดตามสถานการณ์อย่างใกล้ชิด

วันที่ 14 มิถุนายน เวลา 15:09 UTC เกิดพายุสุริยะขนาดใหญ่ มีทิศทางมาที่โลกซึ่งจะส่งผลกระทบต่อโลกในหลายรูปแบบ ทั้งด้านสภาพอากาศแปรปรวน น้ำท่วม แผ่นดินไหว ภูเขาไฟระเบิด พืนที่เสี่ยงภัยเป็นพิเศษได้แก่ทวีปอเมริกาเหนือ รองลงมาได้แก่เอเซียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ หรือทางยุโรป ผู้ที่ทำงานแจ้งเตือนด้านภัยพิบัติโปรดเตรียมติดตามสถานการณ์อย่างใกล้ชิด โดยเฉพาะเกียวกับเรื่องน้ำ จากการคำนวณจากทางการคาดว่าพลังงานจะมาถึงโลกในวันที่ 16 มิถุนายน เวลาประมาณ 21 UTC +/- 7 UTC

A fast solar plasma cloud - coronal mass ejection or CME - erupted into
the direction of the Earth. The cloud was associated with a long
duration M1.9 flare peaking at 14:35UT on June 14. The cloud was first
visible at 14:09UT in STEREO B/COR2 images. A first estimate of the
speed based on STEREO B COR2 images, gives a value above 1000 km/s. This
means that the shock preceding the plasma cloud might arrive within 2
days. We expect also the cloud itself to arrive at Earth. In case of
deceleration, the transit time from the Sun to the Earth will be longer.
Geomagnetic disturbances are possible in case of arrival.

STRONG COMPRESSION OF EARTH'S MAGNETOSPHERE: As expected, a double CME hit Earth's magnetic field on June 16th around 0900 UT. Intitially, the impact appeared to be weak, but now the effects are growing. Analysts at the Goddard Space Weather Lab say the impact strongly compressed Earth's magnetic field, directly exposing some geosynchronous satellites to solar wind plasma. CHANCE OF FLARES: Sunspot AR1504 has developed a 'beta-gamma-delta' magnetic field that harbors energy for strong solar flares--and the huge sunspot is directly facing Earth. Amateur astronomer Eric von der Heyden photographed the behemoth on June 16th from his backyard observatory in Mühltal-Traisa, Germany:

Following the shock this morning June 16, around 9:00UT, another sudden increase in the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) was observed by the satellite ACE at L1 around 20:30UT and 22:00UT. The IMF has a value of 40 nT at the moment of writing. Bz had positive values. This explains the limited response of the geomagnetic field: the local K reached only 4 which corresponds to unsettled conditions. The proton flux >=10MeV measured by GOES (satellite at a geostationary orbit) reached the threshold-storm level, the more energetic fluxes didn't increase. The >=10MeV flux increased gradually since June 15. This increase is related
with the solar activity of June 13 and 14 and can be linked with the coronal mass ejections on these days.
